Let’s start with the short (ish) story
Woman in the world of brand marketing meets maternity leave (baby no1) and thinks “wow, this is way harder than advertised and actually who even am I to think I can get back to work intact”. Cue the self doubt, juggle, perfectionism, apologising, over functioning and weekly flip flopping in what would be the right next step.
Woman meets maternity leave again (baby no2) and thinks “no way will it be as hard as the first and at least I know what to expect” then “oh a different kind of hard that’s harder than the first hard and apparently my professional skills have no place here either”. Warrior mode activated. I shall overcome. Or burnout. Yes, apparently this is what working parent burnout is.
Woman meets maternity leave agan (baby no3) and thinks “absolutely not doing it that way again”, finds the right support, works with her personality and the experience she wants to have, gets intentional about it and has all the right conversations with herself and others. Cue an altogether more rewarding and confidence boosting experience personally and professionally.
1 year later with a 7yr old, 5yr old and 1yr old in tow, woman sets out to build a new norm that sets professional parents up to thrive before, during and beyond leave.
